The Hellion's Metric Half-Century (38-mile) Ride
Our Hellion's Metric Half-Century riders take in the spectacular panoramas of the northern San Mateo County coastline as the 38-mile route heads south, down the coast to Half Moon Bay and back!
This ride is geared towards advanced-intermediate cyclists looking to push through to the next level and advanced cyclists who ride regularly and are looking for an exhilarating medium distance workout. Riders under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
NEW FOR 2017!
OUR MAGNIFICENT METRIC HALF CENTURY NOW INCLUDES NORTHBOUND SHUTTLE SERVICE FROM MONTARA TO THE DEVIL’S SLIDE RECREATIONAL TRAIL ENTRANCE!
We’re very excited to announce that Metric Century riders will now have the option of taking a shuttle from Montara to the south entrance of the Devil’s Slide Recreational Trail on their way back to Pacifica. The reason? Because the shoulder in the Northbound direction of Highway 1 between Montara and the Lantos Tunnel has always been pretty narrow, but after our very wet winter, it’s even narrower this year! We strongly urge you to take advantage of this new service which will allow you to bypass this tight 2.3-mile stretch of road.
We’ll be running two vans, equipped with bike racks, between Farallone View Elementary School, our pick-up point, and the Devil’s Slide trail entrance all morning, but please be aware that there may be as long as a 20 minute wait between shuttles because the amount of traffic on Highway 1 on a summer weekend is beyond our control. To make your wait as pleasant as possible, we’ll be serving snacks and drinks at the school while you wait.
We invite you to take a look at our new updated route map below, which also includes a new scenic detour along the backroads between Half Moon Bay and Montara.
